Your PTA and School are a National PTA School of Excellence!
We are pleased to recognize your hard work and achievements with the 2016-2018 National PTA School of Excellence designation. This summer, our team of volunteers reviewed applications from PTAs and schools across the country. Your results and application stand out as a nationwide leader in developing strong family-school partnerships.
Please take a moment to watch a congratulatory video from Laura Bay, National PTA president.
Look for your Celebration Kit to arrive in the mail the week of Sept. 6. It contains everything you need to share the good news, including:
    • A School of Excellence banner to hang at your school
    • A guide that provides ideas for hosting a celebration event
    • School of Excellence lapel pins for your school and PTA leadership
    • Turnkey tools for promoting your event
Get started now with the digital Celebration Kit! This kit contains template social media graphics that can be used to share your recognition with teachers, students and families. Access other celebration tools at
Promoting the Celebration in the News
This week, National PTA will distribute a news release announcing that 170+ schools have earned this designation. In the Sept. 1 release, National PTA will also promote a Facebook Live event that will be held at noon EDT, Friday, Sept. 9, during which the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award recipients will be announced and results will be shared from the 2015-2016 School of Excellence program.
We encourage you to localize this national news by adding your PTA and school’s information and celebration plans to the template press release in the Celebration Kit and sending the press release to media outlets in your area.
Here are a couple of media outreach tips:
    • Research media outlets and reporters in your area. You can find most of this information on the Internet. Ideally, you will want to reach a contact who reports on education. While some media outlets are smaller than others, it may be applicable to contact the newsroom and ask for an editorial assistant.
    • Link to the national news release. You will find the news release in our news room the week of Sept. 12.
    • Don’t forget to follow up with a phone call or e-mail to ensure your press release was received. You can learn more about reaching out to media outlets in our PTA Back-to-School Kit.
    • Share media hits or celebration stories with @NationalPTA on social media networks using the hashtag #PTAExcellence so we can celebrate with you.
And be sure to join us on Sept. 9 to see if your PTA and school have been recognized with the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award--only 2016-2018 Schools of Excellence are eligible to receive the award.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment to building strong family-school partnerships. Enjoy celebrating your achievement!
