It is my distinct honor to be appointed as principal at John Herbert Phillips Academy, "An IB World Class School of Excellence", est. 2007! For many years, Phillips Academy has stood as the flagship of the district in academics, extra-curricular activities, and one other asset that many schools in the country cannot categorically lay a strong claim to possessing - the most passionate, caring, and involved parents.
I strongly believe that Phillips Academy is postured for immense success. We have world class students and world class professionals who deliver instructions and other services to match students' needs for a global learning experience. My areas of focus will be to:
A. Increase proficiency levels across all grade by 10 points for the 2016-2017 academic year.
B. Enhance the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in our Primary and Middle Year Programs through PD and global experiences for our students.
C. Improve the school culture by implementing a strong Deliberative Process, Problem Solving Team (PST), and Response to Intervention (RTI) initiatives.
D. Leverage the parental support inherent at JHPA to meet the school's needs.
I earned a Bachelor's Degree from Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, AL. A Master's, Ed.S., and Ph.D in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Instruction from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I also deployed and served overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with my Alabama National Guard unit.
At JHPA, the goal is not to meet state and federal benchmarks. The goal is to set the standard for excellence for the state, nation, and serve as a model for other schools around the world.
