• The Alabama Association for Gifted Children has named Arrington Middle School Principal Anthony Moss "Principal of the Year." Moss was selected for his outstanding service and dedication to the gifted students at Arrington Middle.
"It's an honor and a privilege to win this award because our students work hard. I'm proud of our students on achieving the best and being able to push it the limit in everything they pursue,'' Moss said.
"I thank the district, the community and the staff and faculty at Arrington Middle because without them, this award would not be possible. This was a joint effort.''
Moss will be honored on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10:30 a.m. during the state AAGC conference at the McWane Science Center. Arrington Middle gifted students will also be honored at that time for winning first place in the group 6-8 division of the statewide AAGC video contest, "Igniting Gifted Potential.''
"I'm very proud of the hard efforts the students put forth in making that video,'' Moss said.
In other Arrington Middle news, the school launched two mentoring programs for boys  this fall and started school with a successful Open House. In the spring, Birmingham Mayor William Bell visited the school to present a city beautification award.
