• Hello! I am  Mrs. Ann R. Walker--your child's fourth grade teacher. Let me tell you a bit about myself, if you do not already know. I have been a teacher in the Birmingham City School System for 24 years and have taught at Minor Elementary School for more than 20 of those years. I enjoy my teaching at Minor tremendously. I earned my undergraduate degree at Miles College, where I have a received a Bachelors in Arts (BA) in Elementary Education. Prior to this, an Associate in Applied Science degree was earned in Computer Science from Lawson State Community College. This assures you that I have great interest in offering your child instruction using technology. My Masters degree was earned in Education in Reading Curriculum from Grand Canyon University. Additional studies have been completed at SUNY Brockport, New York, where I conducted extensive research in reading disorders. This assures you that I place great emphasis in teaching reading, as it  has been a lifelong passion of mine. Moreover, due to my extensive studies, I am classified as a Highly Qualified Teacher at Minor Elementary School, so you can be assured that your child is receiving quality instruction. Based on my academic and professional studies, it is evident that I consider successful reading a priority for my students. It is my hope that parents support their child's reading by encouraging him to read at home and use their child's Accelerated Reader Reading Log to help keep track of his daily reading habits. It is the motto of our Reading Department in Birmingham City Schools that "Reading is the new civil right," I too, hold that belief and challenge my students to strive to achieve their dreams through successful reading.
