• Meet Ms. Walker

My name is Ms. Walker.  I grew up in the small town of Uniontown, Alabama and spent my summers in Mobile, Alabama.   As an adult I moved back to Mobile, Alabama where I raised my two children and realized teaching was my gift.  Regardless of what career path I chose, I always returned to the classroom. I currently live in in Birmingham, Alabama and have a goal of leaving a legacy for my children and my community.

I have been teaching at West End Academy for 2 years, but I have 6 years of teaching experience.  I began my teaching career in Mobile, Alabama, where I taught grades 1st through 4th during my first 5 years of teaching and 2 years in high school before moving to Birmingham, Alabama .   I absolutely love teaching and strive to give my students the best education I can while they are in my room.   I understand not everyone learn the same, therefore more hands-on approaches and S.T.E.M. lessons are utilized.

    Education:

I began my education in Uniontown, Alabama, graduating from Robert Clinton Hatch High School in 1992.  I then attended Bishop State College where I received my Associates Degree.  After that, I went to Faulkner University where I received my Bachelor's Degree in 2008.  I returned to Phoenix University to receive my Master's Degree in 2010.

    Hobbies:

During my free time, I mostly enjoy spending reading, writing poetry, and traveling. I have collected Mickey Mouse and elephants since I was 10 years old and they are near and dear to my heart. I find water (the beach, lakes, pools, aquariums, etc.) calming and this is the environment I find most of my inspiration when I write.  I am "Roll Tide Roll" Alabama Crimson Tide fan and a Dallas Cowboys fan,  especially since my two nephews Jaylon Smith #54 and Rod Smith #45 are on the team. Go Cowboys!! So let's just say football season is one of my favorite times of the year.

Best Method and Time to Contact Me:

The easiest way to communicate with me is through Class Dojo or text, since an alert comes directly to my phone and I can respond quicker.  Also, sending an email is very effective because I check it throughout the workday.   My door is always open, so feel free to schedule a conference during my planning period because our communication is vital to your child's education!
