Mrs. Monica Williams

Hello Everyone! My name is Monica Williams, and I serve as the counselor for all 6th students and half of the 7th grade students at Jones Valley Middle School. I have worked with children in a professional capacity for 20 years as a teacher and counselor.  I enjoy my work and have a passion for helping students reach their full potential in the domains of academic, personal/social, and career development.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

The school closures from the Coronavirus Outbreak have presented some unique challenges for families and school personnel; however, we will continue to provide counseling services to students using a virtual platform. Students and families are encouraged to make use of appropriate online resources to enhance academic, career and social/emotional development.

Parents and students may contact me via Email, Remind, or in the Counseling Google Classrooms. Parents may also call and leave a message on my Google Voice Phone: (205) 920-1861. My official office hours are Monday - Thursday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. These are the hours set aside for actively interacting with students and parents, placing and receiving phone calls, and answering emails.

Invitations for parents to join Remind Classes were sent out with students twice this year; however, you can still find instructions for joining Remind on our Student and Family Resources page. Remind works very much like Group and Individual Texting. I can send messages to all participants at once or to individuals. Parents can respond to my messages and also send private text messages to me.

Invitations for joining the 6th and 7th grade Counseling Google Classrooms were sent to all 6th and 7th grade students' email addresses during the month of March. When students log in to Google Classroom, they should see all of their present classes and those that they have been invited to and haven't joined yet. Joining the class is as easy as clicking the "Join" button! A weekly Guidance Lesson, along with all needed resources, will be posted to the 6th and 7th grade Counseling Google Classrooms each week. Students and parents will be able to communicate with me and ask any pertinent questions through use of the Google Classroom stream and/or Email. These Weekly Guidance Lessons will also be posted on our Weekly Guidance Lesson Page.

Be encouraged! These are troubling times, full of new experiences and challenges, but we're going to make it through this together! I look forward to communicating and interacting with everyone electronically!

Mr. Jonathan Borden

I am the 8th grade counselor and I share counseling responsibilities for the seventh-grade classrooms of Mrs. Davies, Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Hinton at Jones Valley Middle School.  I have worked with families for over 24 years in education, social services and in various settings. I am pleased to have the charge of working with your children (our students) as they develop and grow in the areas of academics, career development and personal/social development.  As challenging as times are today and with so many challenges, it can be quite the task to know which way(s) is or are best to pursue positive experiences for your (our) children.

Please note that I am available for service to you and your children and I have and will continue to be available for any questions concerning your child(ren) career aspirations, social emotional needs and academic support via phone and school technology mediums. Please note that I am available Monday thru Thursday starting at 7:30am until 3:30 pm via phone, email or other social media means. My Phone Number is (205) 767-3250 and my email is JBorden@bhm.k12.al.us.

Covid19 Update:

To go or not to go, that is the question that can have you as students and parents concerned about the educational process going forward. We know this is the question on everyone’s minds. This has been an above all painful point, given the rich history of experiential learning in our school community. Here at JVMS we have embraced a new way of learning and communicating with you and your children during this time. Your children (our students) will continue the tradition of participating and embracing quality education with the use of social media and other educational technology avenues. Under the Guidance tab on the school website, information is given that will be of assistance in addressing concerns that come to mind. Please remain connected to the school website for additional information and updates.
