Mrs. Mary D. Boehm

In August 2021, Mary Boehm was elected to a second four-year term on the Birmingham Board of Education representing District 3. The schools in District 3 include: Avondale Elementary, E.P.I.C. Elementary, and Glen Iris Elementary. She currently serves as BBOE Vice President

Prior to serving on the BBOE, Mary was president of A+ College Ready, a non-profit organization established to improve student achievement and college readiness in public schools throughout Alabama. A+ College Ready implemented a college readiness and Advanced Placement (AP*) Initiative in public highschools across the state of Alabama. The program’s success led to Alabama’s number one ranking among all 50 states in the percent increase in qualifying scores on math, science and English AP exams since 2008.              

Mary is a former president of the BellSouth Foundation responsible for grants and charitable giving in 9 states. She also was Regional Vice President of the BellSouth Pioneers, the company’s volunteer arm.  Prior to that, she helped lead the Alabama Power Foundation for 6 years.  

Mary is a graduate of Brooke Hill School, now Altamont School, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is an alumnus of Leadership Birmingham and Leadership Alabama.  

Mary is married to Chris Boehm, and they have three sons and five grandchildren.
