Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program designed to help girls in 3rd-8th grade develop confidence, learn how to set goals, learn how to form healthy relationships and show care for their community. Teams are led by volunteer coach mentors, many of whom are school teachers and staff, and meet twice a week for 21 lessons over the course of a season (fall or spring). At the end of the season, all the girls from around the greater Birmingham area come together to complete a 5k, celebrating what they accomplished during the season.
During the 2018-2019 school year 11 different BCS schools participated and 177 BSC girls were able to participate. We are always recruiting new schools to participate.
