Lifting As We Climb Foundation
Lifting as We Climb Foundation (LAWCF) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization founded on the premise of uplifting, empowering and exposing citizens of Alabama communities to positive teaching and learning environments. It is the foundation’s mission to continuously encourage academic excellence, community service involvement and physical and mental health awareness.
The Black Rhinos of Alabama is LAWCF’s signature male mentoring program, designed to offer personalized, hands-on support to prepare local male youth to serve, lead and positively contribute to their respective communities, as well as the globalized society. Through the power of exposure and access, it is the vision of our organization to provide our male mentees with an excellent education so they are well equipped to positively contribute to society, achieve economic security, and pursue their personal dreams.
Lifting as We Climb Foundation provides intervention and support to at least 120 male high school students (Juniors & Seniors) at Carver, Wenonah, Jackson-Olin and Huffman High schools. Mentors engage male mentees in intentional conversations, real world hands-on activities, and host college and career readiness field trips to prepare them for both life during, and after high school. Lifting as We Climb Foundation partners with GEAR UP Birmingham to provide BCS students, parents/guardians and community stakeholders alike with clear, sustainable pathways for college, career and life success.
