Alabama's nationally recognized Voluntary First Class Pre-K Program is preparing for another exciting school year! From January 15th through March 24th, families can submit pre-registration applications online for the 2023-2024 school year. There is no registration fee for this program.
Upon enrollment, a child's immunization record must be provided. No child will be denied participation based on income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability. Enrollment is open to all children four years of age on or before 9/1/23.
Visit https://prek.alaceed.alabama.gov to complete the online form and submit birth certificates and proof of residency.
All students must apply within their school zone and must reside in the Birmingham City School district. Children who are eligible for kindergarten are ineligible. Additionally, enrollees must provide an original copy of the child's birth certificate to the Early Learning Department, as well as proof of residency. The latter can be either a current utility bill or a copy of a lease or mortgage submitted directly to the Early Department. Public school system pre-k programs have zoning requirements that determine eligibility to attend a program at a particular school.
Acceptance is strictly through random drawing to be held on March 2nd-March 20th. The parent/guardian does not have to be present at the drawing and notices will be emailed beginning April 16th.
