• Students in grades 1-5 participate in the Accelerated Reader program, a computerized reading comprehension assessment. Students are initially given a STAR test to determine their reading comprehension level (ZPD). Students self-select a book within their ZPD range to read for pleasure.  Reading a book within the Zone of Proximal Development enables the student to learn vocabulary while reading in context of the book.  This way the book is not too easy and encourages growth. At the same time, it is not so difficult that it impedes comprehension.

Although every book does not have an AR test, our students do have access to every test that has been created by Renaissance Place. You may check AR BookFind  for a book's reading level and points.

Students may check their goals, quizzes taken, etc. through Renaissance Place. Please note that quizzes may only be taken in the classroom, in the computer lab, or in the library media center.

Parents may check their child's AR progress through Renaissance Home Connect. Parents may look at the books on which their children have tested and their scores. If your child does not remember his/her AR username and password, please call or email me.
