Welcome to First Grade! My name is Miss Jana Miller. I have taught in Birmingham City Schools for five years now. I love God, all things pink, Dr. Pepper, Twix, going for walks, reading a good book, and spending time with my family and friends.
I realize that teaching your child is a tremendous responsibility and I will do my best to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience this school year. However, I cannot do this without the help of you, the parents. We are partners in the learning process. With your help we will have a classroom of scholars, athletes, musicians and/or actors and respectful responsible citizens of the future.
I believe that parent-teacher relationships are necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with parents through notes, telephone calls, emails, report cards and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at school, on Remind, or send me a written message. I am available for conferences regarding your child's progress from 11-12 on Monday or Friday.
During the school year there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by sending needed supplies or treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.
