  • Child Find Services - Birmingham City Schools

    Child Find is a special education service provided by Birmingham City Schools for identifying children from ages three through twenty-one who are suspected of having an educational disability and who may be eligible for special education and related services.

  • Welcome to the Special Education Department!

    Special education is specially designed instruction that enables a student with a disability to access and progress in the general curriculum.  Special education is provided in the least restrictive environment at no charge to the student's parents.

    What Services Are Available Through The Special Education Department?

     

    • Processing of referrals for evaluation
    • Individual evaluation to determine eligibility for special education as described by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act)
    • Instructional support and services to eligible students with disabilities as defined under IDEA and as prescribed by an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
