Hello, I am Mrs Angelia Bowen, your school counselor.I am here to help you and your child have a successful school year. As school counselor, I work with parents and students in many ways. The Counselor regularly conducts lessons related to personal and social development, academic development, and career development in each classroom. In an effort to reach out to our students who are in need of assistance both individual and small group counseling sessions are available. Participants in these sessions are selected by teacher recommendation, parent request, and voluntary attendance. The topics discussed will be based on needs assessments conducted each year. The counselor also serves on the Attendance Committee, the Positive Behavior Support Team, the Problem Solving Team and as 504 Coordinator. In addition, the counselor may be able to connect you with organizations that offer professional services to students and their families.Rethink & Needs Assessment linkshttps://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1NdIYRkenTvgPuUqpdlaM-0wcY1nf6ZY4FSkcqiNVQr4/edit?usp=sharingQuarantine InformationDuring the quarantine it is important to assure your child that he/she is as safe as you can make them. This is a scary time for adults and children alike. Your child may seem more clingy than usual or may act out more than normal. They miss their friends and teachers, they miss the security that a structured school day provides. Spend as much quality time with them as your day allows. Try to stick to a routine as much as possible. Your child's teachers do not expect you to "teach" for 6 to 7 hours a day. Just do what you can do to help your child complete his/her assignments and retain the skills he/she has already learned. READ to them or with them and then READ some more. Ask questions. Encourage them to journal their thoughts and activities during this unique time in history (they can write and/or draw). Let them help you with household chores and make a lesson out of it. For example, "if there are 5 toys on the floor and you pick up 2, how many are left?" Let them help you bake or cook dinner. There is a lot of math in following a recipe. Use this time to TALK about anything and everything.I have included some social/emotional activities you and your child can work through together. Stay Safe, Stay Positive. "BEE" strong CAB family :)
