Welcome to Career/Technical Family Studies and Community Services. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University, Masters of Science degree from Samford University, and a Cosmetology Certificate from Lawson State Community College. I am a certified online facilitator, certified to teach Career Preparedness, and I am a nationally certified financial planner. I have been a Birmingham “Teacher of the Year”, Vocational “Teacher of the Year” for District II of the State of Alabama and nominated again for the state of Alabama in 2015, recognized by the State of Alabama for being an “Outstanding Adviser” to a state’s FCCLA© Middle School Representative, “Outstanding American Teacher”, teacher of “2009 Jefferson County Beef Cook-Off Winner, had FCCLA Gold, Silver and Bronze Student Winners in state competitions. I am a Certified Guest Service Professional, and my Gerontology students won First Place and $1000.00 in the state’s first AT&T ‘s Cyber Seniors Video Contest, 1st Place and $1000.00 in the state’s first Litter Quitters Video Contest and earlier this year received the Governor’s Conservation Achievement Award, 2018 Youth Conservation Achievement Award from Governor Kay Ivey and numerous other awards.
This year I am teaching: Family Studies and Community Services I, Family Studies and Community Services II, Parenting, Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), and Food and Nutrition. (Each course name is a link to the year-long curriculum; everything that must be taught.) Every student has an opportunity to become credentialed. The state of Alabama pays for the exam. The student must prepare for the exam. There is no excuse for a career tech student to leave high school without a credential to be ready for a job/career.
