Welcome to Robinson Elementary School - Home of the Road Runners!!!
I am Karen R. Lee, a product of Birmingham City Schools. My educational background includes obtaining a B.S. Degree in Special Education with a Concentration in Mental Retardation from Alabama A&M University, and a Certification in the field of Emotional Conflict, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2004, I received a M.A. Degree in Collaborative Special Education, with a Concentration in Autism, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I also completed additional post graduate classes in the field of English as a Second Language, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
I am currently assgned to Robinson Elementary School as a Special Education Teacher with a concentration in Autism. I am a veteran teacher in the field of Special Education, and I currently serve as Lead Teacher for the Special Education Department at the school. Everyday I REJOICE for the opportunity to fulfill my calling and passion for teaching...for you see, it was at an early age that I accepted the "GIFT" of working with students with special needs. My childhood neighbor was diagnosed with Mental Retardation, and although I didn't really know what that meant at the time, I took it upon myself to play with this special friend, and to teach her social skills that were needed to make friends with the other children in the neighborhood. It was then that I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up...A Special Education Teacher, and throughout my educational career, my mind never wavered. If I had to do it all over again...my journey wouldn't change!
Parents, I look forward to working with you and your child during the 2019 - 2020 school year! Please feel free to contact me with any concerns that you may have regarding your child's education.
*School Closure Plan
Parents, the Birmingham City Schools Special Education Department/Robinson Elementary School Special Education Department stands committed to serve all students with disabilities during this time of school closure due to COVID-19. To align with the district's plan to address instruction for non-disabled students, the Special Education Department has developed a plan to provide a blended approach, (i.e. I will provide some supplemental materials digitally, and some supplemental materials will be printed and provided for your child) to support our students in an effort to meet continued FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education), special education instruction, and related services (i.e. Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Theray, Physical Therapy, etc.). On a weekly basis, I will be in contact with each parent via telephone and/or other oline platforms to provide instructional services, updates, support/feedback, and strategies for your child. Also, your child's related services provider will be in contact with each of you to set up how they will be providing services (i.e. teletherapy, intervention resources, printed therapy packets, etc.) in the very near future. I have set up online office hours for Monday - Thursday, 9:30a.m. - 11:30a.m., to receive any questions and/or concerns regarding your child's educational process during this period of school closure. I may be reached via email at email@example.com.
