Degrees and Certifications:
Meet Ms. Taylor
Welcome to first grade!
Hi! I’m Ms. Taylor and that rockstar in the photo is me as a firstie in 1991! Nearly 30 years later, I am still just as excited about school as I was back then!
I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! It is going to be a year of fun, learning, and growth! I can't wait to learn all about you, but first, here are a few things about me. The 2019-2020 school year begins my second year teaching at Princeton and my ninth year teaching. I previously taught first grade in Chicago Public Schools, and I have also taught kindergarten in Seoul, South Korea. I have a Masters in Early Childhood Education from DePaul University. I attended THE Ohio State University for undergrad, and I am a huge Buckeye football fan! Teaching is my absolute passion, and it is what I was designed by God to do! I have three sisters and one brother, and I grew up here in Birmingham. I love to craft, go to the movies, dance, read, travel, and do anything adventurous.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year together!
My Teaching Style & Beliefs
My teaching style follows the constructivist learning theory. I believe that students learn best when they construct their own knowledge through hands-on exploration and discussion, actively participate in the learning process, and when they feel comfortable, safe, and welcome in their classroom. This includes the use of scaffolding, meaning I model how to solve a problem, and then step back, offering support as needed. I believe children learn differently, but all children can learn. I recognize parents as educators and believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.
My Mission Statement
My mission as an educator is to encourage, challenge, and support all children by providing a safe, secure, and loving environment to educate them socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively so they can build a foundation for life-long learning in the 21st century.
