Welcome to room 111 at Norwood Elementary School (NES). In my 3rd grade class, all of my tiger cubs will build awesome friendships, lasting memories, blossom into amazing readers, transform into future mathematicians and enjoy NES to the fullest.
My name is Marlan Pinkins, and this is my 7th year teaching at NES and my 2nd year being a 3rd-grade teacher. When I was a child, it was in 3rd grade when I discovered my love for learning and decided I would pursue my dreams of being a teacher. So it is fitting that 3rd grade is where I ended up teaching this year. I’ve lived in the state of Alabama for most of my life and matriculated through the Jefferson County School System. I attended Crumly Chapel Elementary, Bottenfield Middle School, and Minor High School. I earned my B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Miles College, and I also have a master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama.
My goal is that each of my students try something new and become respectful, independent learners while having fun. I believe that every child can learn. My teaching philosophy is simple; students do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. I show them how much I care by forming relationships with every individual student. I push for my students to be leaders in and outside of the classroom. When the year ends, I hope that I will have influenced them to become lifelong learners and to pursue higher education beyond high school.
I am excited about this school year, and I hope you are too. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or email me.
Thank you,
Mr. Pinkins
