Tavares D. Gilbert
Room 100 & 106
Greetings! I am Tavares Gilbert and it is with elation that I join the G.W. Carver Ram Faculty this year as the Cosmetology Instructor. Throughout my experience and career, the following beliefs have become my mantra: Cosmetology is more than the concept of hair, Cosmetology is when one can amalgamate ( the action, process, or result of combining) Science and Art. Once one has learned the applied science in cosmetology and then conceptualized the creativity put forth through Art, then and only then has one mastered cosmetology.
Through my experience as the salon owner of TBT Salon for 9 years, Instructor of Cosmetology Certification from South Eastern School of Cosmetology and Certificate of Cosmetology from Lawson State Community College, it has become my primary mission to equip students with the skills needed to move from my classrooms to their own salons/classrooms in the future. I started this mission in the higher education arena as a Cosmetology Instructor at both Lawson State Community College and Midfield Institute of Cosmetology. With the progress I’ve made working within the higher education infrastructure, I have made it a point to expand my mission and mantra through teaching here at Carver High School. This knowledge and skill expansion that I plan to instill in our students, complimented with their hard work, will shift and navigate the misconceptions that hair is just hair. The aforementioned will provide them with the tools needed to bolster their next steps in the cosmetology academia. Here at Carver I will be teaching our students: Intro to Cosmetology, Natural Hair Practice, and Salon Management Classes. It is an honor to be apart of the Ram Family!
