Hello! Welcome to the Malachi Wilkerson Middle School Band. I am Mrs. Rolanda Lyles, the course instructor. I am so excited about the opportunity to work with all of my parents, students and community partners. Here's a little background information about me. I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I attended Tuggle Elementary School and Bush Middle School. After that, I went on to Minor High School and graduated. I received my bachelor's in music education in 2013, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have a Master's in Music Education from Kent State University. I have 8 years plus years of experience teaching band in the state of Alabama, and over 15 years of doing private lessons and woodwind clinics. My primary instruments are the flute and bass guitar. I sing and play bass for a local gospel group called A Heart4God. I am a member of the Alabama Bandmasters Association (ABA), The National Association for Music Educators (Nafme) and a member of Tau Beta Sigma. I am committed to raising the standard for band programs in Birmingham City Schools and I believe in excellence in performance and character. The calendar for the year will be pretty full. Just to name a few things that we will have going on this year, pep band, jazz band, All City Christmas, and All City Evaluation. I look forward to serving our stakeholders and working together to build upon the rich history here at Malachi Wilkerson Middle School.
