Dr. John Plump is a product of Birmingham City Schools and for the last 27 years has served as a social science teacher, football/softball coach, department head, and alternative school principal. Currently, Dr. Plump serves as the Assistant Principal of Jackson-Olin High School where he works untiringly as an advocate for students.
Dr. Plump is the author of (2) books entitled, Tragedy to Triumph: The Urban School Transformation and Pushing for Proficiency: The Teacher’s Instructional Highway.
Dr. Plump holds membership in the National Alliance of Black School Educators, National Council for Educating Black Children, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and Phi Delta Kappa Educational Honors Fraternity. Dr. Plump is married to the former Sonya Lee Belle, and is the father of 2 girls, Jhana (23) and Jalyn (15).
