Mrs. Telina Bates

Welcome to Fourth Grade! My name is Telina Bates. I am one of the English Language Arts and Social Studies teachers for fourth grade.  I am excited that your child will be part of my classroom for this year! I believe that by all of us working together we can make this a very successful year. I consider it of prime importance that you be an active part of your child's education.

My name is Telina Bates. This is my tenth year of teaching. I will be teaching your child to love reading and literacy as much as I do. I received my Bachelor degree and teaching certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as my Master’s degree. I am a proud graduate of the University of West Alabama with my Education Specialist degree, as well.

You are invited to phone me at the school or meet with me anytime you have a question concerning your child's progress. My planning period each day is from 10:15-10:45am. Please call, email, or send me a note and I will more than happy to make an appointment for you. Due to ongoing instruction, I apologize for not being able to meet with you at other times. This would take away from the learning of your student and classmates. I will keep you informed by sending home a weekly sampling of your child's work and behavioral report, as well as a weekly newsletter and progress report during the fifth week of each nine week grading period. I will send this information, along with other school letters, etc. in your child’s Tuesday folder, which will contain a section for you to place money, or any other form. Notes can be sent to me by the student.  Email is my best form of non-emergency communication-this way you can respond on your own time. However, if you prefer me to call you instead of email, I will do so, especially in an emergency.

It is important that you and your child be informed of my standards of classroom behavior so everyone knows what is expected. Enclosed is a copy of our classroom rules, as well as consequences for breaking the rules and not breaking the rules.  If your child develops any difficulty conforming to the rules, I will notify you. As well, I hope that you will advise me if at any time your child has a problem, academic, social, or emotional. Should your child become discouraged or fearful about school, please communicate with me so that we can discover the cause of the problem.

I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child's teacher this year, and look forward to meeting each of you.
