Mr. Zachary Banks

A Birmingham, AL native and Class of 2002 graduate of Ramsay High School, Zachary went on to earn both a Bachelor of Arts in Voice (2008) and a Bachelor of Music in Choral Education (2012) from the University of Montevallo. While there, he was a member of the UM Concert Choir under the direction of the late Dr. Robert Wright and Dr. Melinda Doyle, the Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Gary Packwood and Dr. Melinda Doyle, and as both a member and assistant conductor of the University Chorus assisting Dr. Gary Packwood. Zachary also studied solo voice from both Dr. Charles Wood and Dr. Roderick George.

In 2018, Zachary was hired by Jefferson County Schools as the new Choir Director at McAdory Middle School following a long-time friend and colleague, Dr. Ben Cook. Zachary would be chosen as the District III Co-Chairperson of the Alabama Vocal Association (AVA) Governing Board as the during the summer of 2019. He would go on to become the District III Chairperson along with his Co-Chairperson, Amanda Slay in the Spring of 2020.
Shortly after this appointment, Zachary would return to his High School Alma Mater to become the Choir Director for Ramsay International Baccalaureate High School to continue the tradition of excellence and to fulfill a promise that he made to his choral music inspiration, Ms. Myrna Ria Ross.
