Principal's Opening of School Message 2020

    September 4, 2020

Hello Huffman Parents and Students, this is Principal Lyons.

Welcome back to another wonderful school year in Birmingham City Schools.  I am very excited about the opportunities that this year hold for the scholars at Huffman High School.  This year all Huffman students grades 9-12 will start remotely for the first 9 weeks grading period.

Birmingham City Schools will provide laptops for all enrolled students during the week of September 8th-11th.  Once the devices arrive, parent will be informed by social media, school messenger, and the school’s website about a designated date and time to pick up their device.   Since students will not have devices on day one, we will be giving out BCS approved learning packets for students to complete and turn in for a grade.  The learning packets along with student’s individual schedules can be picked up on Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm until 4:30pm.  All 9th and 10th grade packets and schedules can be picked up on the bus entrance side from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.  All 11th and 12th packets and schedules can be picked up on the bus entrance side from 3:00pm until 4:30pm.  Parents will drive-thru to receive their materials by entering the campus at the top of Old Springville Road and driving around the campus to the bus entrance.  Parents and students should remain in their cars while picking up materials.

If you already have a personal device at home and have I-parent access, students can see their 2020 schedules by simply logging in to that platform.  Additionally, students can log-in to see their classes by going to clever.com/in/bhm.  Clever will be platform that Birmingham City Schools students will use to access Schoology.  Once you access Schoology you can access teachers’ classes where you will find zoom links for face to face instruction.  Your username and password for Clever and Schoology will consist of your s-number and a generic password.   Please visit Huffman’s Facebook page and the school’s website to review instructions on how to retrieve your username and password for Clever and Schoology and additional first day protocols.

If you already have access to your 2020 schedule and can access Clever and Schoology you do not have to pickup the learning packet. You will only have to log-in to your face -to-face classes via the zoom links in Schoology.  The Remote learning bell schedule for face to face instruction can also be found on the school’s Facebook page and website.

Please bear with us as we all navigate these new remote learning platforms together.  The first week of school will be an adjustment period for students and teachers.  We will work together in the weeks ahead to ensure all students have a pathway to success.  If you have any questions, please contact the school at 205-231-5000.
