Media Relation Requests
The BCS Strategy & Communications Department aims to develop, nurture, and maintain positive relationships with media members to promote beneficial relationships for both parties.
An ethical principle of journalism is providing accurate information, context and verifying sources before publicizing. Additionally, neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy according to the Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics.
The same principles apply to the Strategy & Communications Department. In order to give our team time to look into your media inquiry, research your request, gather and verify information from various departments, draft statements, and coordinate any interviews, we ask for 72 hours to respond to your inquiry for any story inquiries/requests that are not breaking news.
We request all inquiries be made by emailing cseaborn@bhm.k12.al.us. -
School Events Requests
While we do not have the capacity to attend events at more than 40 schools across the district, we will be glad to send a news release before your event in order to inform media members. Please send information about your event including who, what, when, where, and why to cseaborn@bhm.k12.al.us at least one week before your event. This will provide us with the information and time we need to craft and distribute a media advisory.
Following the event, you are invited to send any photos from the event along with a suggested caption (280 character limit) to cseaborn@bhm.k12.al.us for promotion on social media. Please see the Web and Social Media Requests for more information. -
Web & Social Media Requests

Social Media
We will respond to social media post requests within 48 hours. Please provide both a caption (280 character limit) as well as an image for us to use to promote. Send social media requests to cseaborn@bhm.k12.al.us.
Example Caption: "The Martha Gaskins Elementary School Family and Community Engagement group hosted their Bow Ties & Breakfast event. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade boys were invited, along with their male role models. The topic of discussion for this event was "bullying." -
Graphic Design Requests
We require two weeks notice for all graphic design requests. Every project is different, and some may take a few days and others may take a few weeks. All information must be free of grammatical errors and provided in advance so that content can simply be copied and pasted into a design. All information must be submitted in one request, rather than various emails from several individuals.
Send graphic design requests to cseaborn@bhm.k12.al.us.
For small events or requests such as flyers, invitations, certificates, etc our department recommends visiting canva.com, a free graphic-design tool website.
You can view our templates and style guide by visiting our Branding Page.
Booklets, Brochures, and other Multi-paged Documents
Larger documents, such as packets or booklets, must be 20 pages or less in order to be completed within two weeks. All information must be complete, error-free, and in one document (PDF or Word). However, our department’s ability to complete larger projects depends on the number of ongoing projects in our queue.
DISCLAIMER: All documents must be finalized, proofread, and grammatically correct before being sent to our department. Although Strategy and Communications may make recommendations or point out errors, our department is NOT responsible for any errors within finalized documents.
If our department is not able to complete your request, please see our References page for recommendations on where to go for outsourced design services.
Printing Services
In order to remain efficient and available, The Strategy & Communications department does not manage printing services. We will provide you with a completed and print-ready design.
Please see our References page for recommendations on where to go for printing. -
