The employee recognition program fosters a culture of service excellence that connects with Pillars 2, 3, and 4 of the district's strategic plan focused on Team Excellence, Stakeholder Trust, and Effective Systems and Planning.
Benefits of the Employee Recognition Program include the following:

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Award
The Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) award recognizes individuals who consistently exceed work requirements and expectations.
These individuals:
-Demonstrate exceptional initiative
-Attend to the smallest of details
-Routinely go the extra mile
Criteria:
-Dedicates time and effort beyond school/work hours.
-Self-motivated to initiate various programs, activities, or interventions to improve the learning environment and/or culture of the school/worksite.
-Solves problems or improves processes to result in increased customer satisfaction or cost savings.
-Collaborative with others (student, parents, staff & teachers) to provide the support and instruction needed for progress.
-Provides a positive, safe, clean and conducive environment for students, faculty, and staff.
-Demonstrates the ability to positively resolve conflicts, issues, concerns, or problems.
-Nurtures others to promote confidence.
-Rallies for the good of students, school and community.
-Shows exceptional initiative, perseverance, accountability or commitment.

Caught Being Great Award
The Caught Being Great Award recognizes individuals who go out of their way to make the district a better place, even when no one is looking. Similar to the Customer Service Excellence Award, these individuals help maintain a safe and nurturing environment for students and staff. The nominee is highly reliable and contributes positively in all tasks. However, they also strive to bring a great attitude everywhere they go in the district.
This award considers employee performance in a number of areas:

-Proficient
-Alliance

Customer Service Excellence Award
In Birmingham City Schools, excellent customer service is critical to establishing and maintaining a positive culture and climate that guides all students to achieve excellence in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. To this end, Birmingham City Schools has established the Customer Service Excellence award.
