Wednesday, March 18, 2020: BCS Preparing for Extended Meal Services

coronavirus update BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- (Wednesday, March 18, 2020) -- Birmingham City Schools leaders are ready to offer extended meal services beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020 at more than 40 schools across the district and more than 15 community centers across the city. Extended meals will be served weekdays from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The district is also partnering with other local school systems to provide free meals to students at a variety of locations in the area regardless of school zone.

BCS will continue providing grab-and-go meal services at all schools across the district through Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

While the district is closed and no formal assignments nor grading are taking place, families are invited to view the BCS Curriculum and Instruction Department's C&I Enrichment Resources to provide students with digital resources for elementary, middle, and high school students during the school closure. See links below:

District leaders also remind families to complete the 2020 Census. The census provides critical data that determines billions of dollars in federal funding for schools, roads and more. To learn about how census data impacts our community, visit 2020census.gov.

BCS reminds anyone feeling ill or exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus (COVID-19) to contact a medical professional immediately. If any students or employees are notified they tested positive for COVID-19, please contact BCS Nurse Coordinator Tameka Hines by emailing thines4@bhm.k12.al.us.

Additionally, everyone is encouraged to continue to follow recommended guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of illness.
