A message for parents, from Dr. Sullivan

Your student's ACT Aspire Student Score Reports have been sent to your local schools.

The ACT Aspire is a standards-based system of assessments to monitor progress toward college and career readiness from grade 3 through early high school, connecting each grade level to the next.  This assessment helps close the gap between the skills students learn in school and the skills they need to succeed in their academic career and beyond.

Birmingham City Schools is using the ACT Aspire assessment results to measure our students’ academic progress as well as to help schools and the district identify areas of strength and areas of growth.

We are aware that this is only one measure of student progress; however, we are using recently released scores to implement programs that provide professional development for our staff and that will support student achievement in every school.  We are committed and dedicated to the development of every student’s academic success.

Each school will hold ACT Aspire Data Meetings for parents between August 24th and September 4th.

Please contact your local school to receive your student's individual report and for specific meeting dates.

Thank you.
