Our community is facing a potential food crisis due to the federal government shutdown. As you may have heard, more than 20 thousand families in Birmingham will see a pause with their SNAP benefits starting November 1. The disruption in SNAP benefits will impact our BCS family. We’re here to help.
If your family is affected, please know our schools will continue to provide your child breakfast and lunch every school day. We are working with our partners, including the city of Birmingham and the United Way of Central Alabama, to identify organizations that will provide food to families in need.
Visit our Bham Ready page for more information.

Students at EPIC Alternative Elementary School and Princeton Alternative Elementary School recently showcased their innovation and creativity in a Shark Tank-style presentation led by their teacher, Mrs. Erica Lewis. As part of the project, students developed original inventions and pitched their ideas to a panel of “Sharks,” aiming to secure imaginary investments in their products.
This engaging activity gave students the opportunity to strengthen their problem-solving, public speaking, and entrepreneurial skills. Their thoughtful ideas and confident presentations were a testament to their hard work and imagination.
Congratulations to all the scholars for their outstanding efforts and creativity! (post 2 of 2)
