The first day of classes for the 2025-26 school year is August 7! This news post will serve as a back-to-school guide for all the things parents will need to do to be Ready Day One.

Registration

Register now to ensure your child(ren) are in class on the first day! Head over to our registration page to begin the process. If you need in-person assistance, extended help desk hours are available at the Lincoln Professional Development Center Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Don't delay; register today!

Calendars

Sync the district calendar with your personal calendar in the Events section of our website. Printable calendars are also available here.

Rooms

Starting this school year, we will use the Rooms platform through the BCS mobile app for classroom communications. Download the BCS app for iPhone or Android and look out for onboarding emails later in July.

Sales Tax Holiday Weekend

Alabama will hold its 20th annual back-to-school sales tax holiday, beginning Friday, July 18 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 20 at midnight. This event gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales tax. Local sales tax may still apply. Refer to the Alabama Department of Revenue for eligible items and additional details.

Back to School Rallies

Community organizations across the Birmingham area host back to school rallies before the start of school. We'll keep you posted on each event as we learn about them. (Updated July 15)

Strike Up the Band: Hosted by R.E.S.P.E.C.T., this back-to-school showcase features marching bands from every BCS high school along with vendors and resources, state and city leaders, giveaways, a live DJ, free food, book bags, supplies, and inflatables! Back to School Celebration presented by Project Hopewell. Join us for school supplies, giveaways, games, food, and prizes! We are collecting notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and other school materials to support students of all ages. Glen Iris School Registration 2025-26: Your future starts the moment you show up. Register now, because greatness can't begin until you do! Complete registration and grab a slush and some popcorn on us! Monday, July 28, 8am-4pm, at Glen Iris Elementary School (map). Bring:

  • Completed online registration form (PowerSchool Enrollment Portal)

  • Student's birth certificate

  • Two (2) proofs of residency (must show parent/guardian's physical name)

  • Up-to-date immunization record

    (Alabama Certificate of Immunization)
