Pathway to Professional Nursing

Medical careers are in high demand, and there is a need for qualified people to fill the positions. The Academy of Health Science will provide scholars with the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming health care workers and prepare scholars for post-secondary health education programs. If you want to learn more about careers in the healthcare field and how to get there yourself, then the Academy of Health Science is the choice for you!

The program, which began at Huffman High School, provides mentorship, academic support, and exposure to the healthcare industry while increasing the pipeline of students of color who are pursuing these jobs.

Students earn a patient care technician certification that will enable them to enter the healthcare workforce after graduation or continue their education in the field. The Pathways to Professional Nursing program is a partnership with the UAB School of Nursing. In fact, students who enroll at UAB will be able to start as a pre-nursing student.

Access to Pathways to Professional Nursing is now also available to students at Ramsay, Wenonah, and Woodlawn.
