Walt Disney once said, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” For students at W.J. Christian K-8 School, such dreams came true today at the venue bearing the founder’s name.
The W. J. Christian Concert Band and Concert Choir performed at the Waterside Stage at Disney Springs, an outdoor retail, dining, and entertainment center located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Both ensembles were selected for the performance by the Walt Disney World Performing Arts committee. The band, consisting of 95 sixth through eighth grade scholars, is a superior-rated performing ensemble at district and state levels. Our band program consists of 95 6th-8th grade students.
“We have performed in various places ranging from Tennessee to Georgia and now Florida,” said Maurice Arrington, the band director. “This was truly a memorable experience that our kids will never forget.”
Performing under the direction of Dr. Connie Cotton, the choir is composed of 35 middle school performers. Like the band, the choir has earned a superior rating at the district level. The group has performed at local churches, day-care facilities, and senior citizen rehabilitations centers throughout Birmingham, as well as Memphis, Tennessee; Panama City Beach, Florida; Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia.
