Robert Miller, a recent Huffman High School graduate, signed an e-sports scholarship with the University of Montevallo today during a ceremony at Huffman.
Miller is the first e-sports scholarship recipient in the district. E-Sports began at Huffman High in March 2025 with competitions on the Nintendo Switch console in Smash Brothers and Mario Kart.
Sports Illustrated has picked up Miller's story as part of an article on the growth of e-sports in high school as a pathway to college and the pros.
āIn our very first season of high school e-sports at Huffman using gaming consoles ā we witnessed something truly extraordinary,ā said Justin Hackett, Robertās coach. āHe earned a scholarship ā an achievement I never imagined possible in our debut season. I am both astonished and immensely proud of Robert and our entire team for making history together.ā
