Students and faculty at Minor Elementary School, along with community partners, cut the ribbon today on a new resource room to address the social and emotional wellness and basic needs of students.
This collaboration between school counselor Carol Palmer and non-profit organization Heidi’s Kids provides essential resources to help scholars overcome barriers that may impact their well-being and academic success.
The initiative offers sensory and emotional support rooms, a clothing closet and food resources such as blessing boxes and blessing sacks, as well as a bathroom with a shower and toiletries.
“Our scholars face a lot of things that they cannot control,” said Ms. Palmer. “As the school counselor, this will assist me in the prevention of bullying and addressing the needs of our scholars socially and emotionally, especially when it comes to the things that they cannot articulate.”
