Birmingham Metro Soccer Media Days kicked off today at G.W. Carver High School, with girls varsity soccer teams from across the metropolitan area converging on the school and boys teams scheduled for Thursday.
This is the first time a Birmingham City Schools high school has hosted the event, which is designed to showcase the talent and passion soccer players in the area bring to the field. Scholars from Carver's Academy of Visual Communication, under the supervision of instructor David Israel, are assisting in the audio and video production.
Girls soccer teams from Carver, Huffman, Wenonah, and Jackson-Olin are appearing today, with boys teams from Carver and Huffman participating on Thursday.
Participating high schools from outside the Birmingham district include Briarwood Christian (the reigning 5A girls state champions), Springville, Oak Mountain, Vestavia Hills, Thompson, John Carroll Catholic, Westminster Oak Mountain, Helena, Fultondale, Chelsea, Leeds, Spain Park, Mountain Brook, Altamont, Mortimer Jordan, Hoover, and Shelby County.
