Jackson-Olin boys relay team with Board Member Yamika Foy

All seven Birmingham City Schools high school track and field teams will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend (April 30-May 2) for the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Meet.

Based on their performances so far this season, several scholar-athletes are considered favorites to bring home medals. Here’s a few names to watch…

Jackson-Olin Boys Relay Team: The quartet is not just one of the fastest in the state – they are among the top teams in the nation. This season, the quartet’s fastest time in the 4x400 relay is 3:17.54 – the fastest in 6A in the state in a decade. There’s a real chance this team not only wins gold, but also sets a state record in the process.

Coach Josh Stillins and Kaius Stewart

Kaius Stewart, Jackson-Olin: He won gold in Gulf Shores last year in the 400m and was crowned state champion in the indoor 400m this year (and as a member of the aforementioned relay team). He’ll compete in the 100m and 200m, but look for him to dominate in the 400m again this weekend.

Laila Holifield, Ramsay: Holifield won gold in the girls 100m and 200m and silver in 400m, leading the girls to first place of the High School Division in the 2026 BCS Track and Field Championship. She won bronze in the 200m at last year's state meet.

Chrisopher Lewis, Ramsay: On the field, Lewis excels in multiple events. He took home gold in javelin and shot put while settling for silver in discus during the BCS Track and Field Championship.

Tamia Bruce, Wenonah: In the BCS Track and Field Championship, Bruce placed first in the 100m and 300m hurdles as well as the high jump, while coming in second in the long jump. She also won bronze in the 300m hurdles at last year's state meet.

Crenshaw Nadia, Woodlawn: She won gold in the long jump at the BCS Track and Field Championship while placing second in the 300m hurdles.
