Scholars are accustomed to seeing their artwork hanging up in their schools' hallways or affixed via magnets on their refrigerator at home, but seeing it as a wall-sized mural is a unique privilege.
Oxmoor Valley Elementary School kindergarten, second and fifth grade scholars in Art Teacher Isabella Ziegler's class designed the new UNITY mural, which was recently painted in the school's library by artist Erica Chisolm, who has previously painted murals at Green Acres Middle School and Hayes K-8 School.

The mural was made possible through a donation from the Magic City (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. (Dr. Kecia Chapman, Executive Director of Assessment, Accountability and Research at Birmingham City Schools, serves as a chapter officer alongside Dr. Autumm Jeter, Assistant Superintendent for the Alabama State Board of Education.)
During a celebration event at the school today, scholars had the opportunity to meet the artist and learn about her artistic process.
Chapter members from The Links, incorporated also presented Principal Dr. Melvin Love with a plaque commemorating their donation for the mural.
