While academics is a core component of the program, Sensational Summer Learning offers enrichment opportunities that extend beyond the textbooks.

For example, our partner Sheriff Mark Pettway's Youth Summer Camp provides a holistic enrichment experience for middle school students, combining academic instruction with social-emotional learning and creative expression. One the classes at Sheriff Pettway's camp teaches the fundamentals of tai chi.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham City Schools Art Department offers June Tunes, a band camp where young musicians hone their skills through learning jazz and other popular music. The camp culminates in a program to be held at Carver High School's auditorium on June 25.

The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Department also conducts Camp Wellness during Sensational Summer Learning. In addition to SEL, Camp Wellness covers math and reading, financial literacy, and more. The class also takes field trips, including this trip to High 5 Birmingham's horse farm and a visit to Zoo Atlanta.
