Birmingham City Schools, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) today announced a partnership to bring an outdoor Fitness Court® and digital wellness programming to Birmingham City Schools.
Please join us for two Fitness Court Studio ribbon cutting ceremonies:
Monday, October 26, 1 p.m. at A. H. Parker High School, 400 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Blvd
Thursday, October 29, 11 a.m. at Huffman High School, 950 Springville Rd
This Fitness Court was developed by Birmingham City Schools, BCBSAL, and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities across the region. The Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets users leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
Created for adults of all abilities aged 14+, the Fitness Court workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court® App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. Birmingham City Schools is one of 25+ Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state, with the help of BCBSAL.
“The new fitness court represents an investment in the health, wellness, and future of our scholars at A.H. Parker High School. It will provide our scholars with opportunities to improve their physical fitness, develop healthy habits, strengthen their mental well-being, and understand that taking care of themselves is an essential part of achieving success in the classroom and beyond,” said Tyrus L. Moss, Ed.S., RAA Athletic Administrator, Assistant Principal, A.H. Parker High School.
“We are excited to provide Huffman High School scholars with a space that promotes movement, motivation, and healthy living. Our goal is to support the development of well-rounded scholars who are equipped to succeed not only academically and athletically, but also in their overall health and well-being,” said Stephen Ward, Athletic Director, Huffman High School.
“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, we are committed to helping Alabamians access resources that support healthier lifestyles,” said Sophie Martin, Director, Corporate Communications and Community Relations. “We are proud to partner with Birmingham City Schools and NFC to bring Blue Cross-sponsored Fitness Courts to the community and create new opportunities for residents to be active and make exercise part of their everyday lives.”
“We are excited to have Birmingham City Schools join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long lasting impact on health outcomes and happiness by building healthy communities across America,’’ said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign “The addition of the outdoor Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the Birmingham community.”
