The Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance (ASAHPERD) awarded Rodney Dorsey, girls basketball coach at Jackson-Olin High School, with its Legacy Grant of $500 to commemorate the organization's 100th anniversary.

Coach Dorsey's application and six others (including Sharon Smith from Glen Iris Elementary School) were selected among more than 40 submissions. He plans to use the funds to establish a pickleball court for the school.

ASAHPERD representative Wanda Gilmore (a retired physical education teacher who served Birmingham City Schools for 25 years), BCS K-12 Physical Education Program Specialist Dr. Sherri Huff, and Jackson-Olin Principal Jesse Daniel presented Coach Dorsey with the check during a surprise presentation held today at the school.
