The Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance (ASAHPERD) awarded Coach Sharon Smith of Glen Iris Elementary School with its Legacy Grant of $500 to commemorate the organization's 100th anniversary.

Coach Smith's application and six others (including Coach Rodney Dorsey at Jackson-Olin High School) were selected among more than 40 submissions. She plans to use the funds to establish a pickleball court for the school.
