The Wenonah JAG Chapter recently hosted a voter registration drive in collaboration with the Upsilon Eta Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc..
This event provided eligible students with the opportunity to register to vote and take an important step toward civic responsibility. As part of the celebration, each student who registered received a cupcake to commemorate their 18th birthday and this significant milestone into adulthood.
We are proud of our students for embracing the importance of civic engagement and grateful for our community partners who support leadership development and service.

The NSBE Jr. chapters at G.W. Carver High School, Ramsay High School, and A.H. Parker High School showed up and showed out at the FIRST Tech Challenge held at UAB. Carver and Ramsay will advance to the state competition in Huntsville!

Dr. Evelyn Nettles Hines, Instructional Superintendent for Professional Development at Birmingham City Schools, has been selected to the 2026 cohort of Influential Women! She has spent decades in instructional leadership, school turnaround work, and educator development. Selection publicly affirms an individual's work has moved from operational leadership to thought leadership. It tells others — districts, universities, foundations, and conference organizers — that her experience is not just respected locally but viewed as influential within the profession.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan and Board President Sherman Collins joined Mayor Randall Woodfin, City Councilors Clinton Woods and Brian Gunn, and other community leaders today for the launch of the City of Birmingham's Black Men Initiative. This community-driven strategy focuses on improving outcomes for Black boys and men by addressing root causes—not just symptoms—of disconnection and harm. The initiative centers on early intervention, with a particular focus on boys ages 8–14, a critical developmental window where research shows support can alter life outcomes.
In turn, Dr. Sullivan, noting that the honor is "not just an individual award but a collective award," recognized the Birmingham Board of Education and the Executive Cabinet, who were in attendance, as well as the faculty, staff, and community of Birmingham City Schools.

Lisa McNair, whose sister Denise was one of four girls slain in the infamous 1963 bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church, and Tammie Fields, whose father Charles Cagle was implicated in the horrific attack, spoke with the scholars about the unlikely bond they have formed and shared their message of love and forgiveness with them.
